About Us

Note : this page has not been updated to reflect the suspension of the business following John Prescott's passing. This page has been left as it was, but any references to current or future plans should be disregarded at the current time.

John Prescott Engineering was founded in 1992 by John Prescott after many years in the engineering industry. As a lifelong interest in model engineering has developed into an interest in 16 mm modelling over nearly two decades, we identified a need for an affordable but well produced small locomotive for the discerning 16mm enthusiast. Hence the very first locomotive, "Robin"was designed and launched in 1992. Since then, it has proved popular with customers all over the world. We have received many favourable comments about the locomotives appearance, controllability, performance and value for money.

The majority of the components are produced by ourselves in our own workshop. Each locomotive is individually built and tested to very high standards. Consequently there is a waiting list for a locomotive. Existing customers are well pleased and consider that our locomotives are worth waiting for. Unfortunately, due to changing conditions in the garden railway industry, it is no longer economic to build steam locomotives in this way, so we are no longer taking orders for steam locomotives.

In an exciting new development, we have been working on electrically powered models in 32mm and 45mm gauges, and  will soon be launching a model of a Sentinel steam engine, as a battery powered model in 32mm gauge and a track powered model in 45mm gauge. Please see the loco page for more information.

We still sell major components for the "Robin"  locomotive for the home builder, and a range of accessories and consumables. We are also pleased to quote for small quantities of bespoke machined parts.

We regret that for insurance reasons we are currently unable to accept orders from USA & Canada
